2) K-12 の“K”は、Kindergarten （幼稚園）、そして　“-12”は、 grade （学年）1 から 12、つまり、１年生から、１２年生を意味します。１年生から６年生は、 grade (elementary) school (小学校), ７年生から８年生は、 middle (junior high) school (中学校) , そして、９年生から１２年生 (freshman (１年生)、sophomore (２年生)、 junior (３年生)、そしてsenior (４年生)) は、high school (高校)です。　注）何年か前までは、７年生から９年生は、 junior high school（中学校）, 10年生から１２年生は, senior high school（高校）で、今の日本と同じでした。

3) Senior colleges （シニアーカレﾂジ）は、四年制大学　(freshman, sophomore、 junior、そしてsenior) 、また、junior colleges（ジュニアーカレﾂジ）は、二年制大学（短期大学） (freshman (１年生)　とsenior (２年生))　です。 Junior colleges は、community colleges　（コミュニテｲーカレﾂジ）や technical (vocational) colleges（技術 (仕事に関連した技術を訓練する) 大学）を含みます。高校生によっては、colleges（カレﾂジ）でクラスを受ける事も出来ます。
