This is
awesome! White-tailed deer’s shed antlers are on display. This pic was shot at
the booth of Steve Porter's Deer Farm*, St. Paul Sportsmen's Show, RiverCentre,
St. Paul, MN, 060115. Adult male white-tailed deer (whitetails) grow and shed a
set of antlers each year**. Top row, left to right: Clyde's (Clyde is a buck; a
male deer is called a “buck”) shed antlers; 1 1/2, 2 1/2, 3 1/2, 4 1/2, 5 1/2, 6
1/2, 7 1/2, and 8 1/2 years. Bottom row, left to right: Scar's (we think Scar
is Clyde's son) shed antlers; 1 1/2, 2 1/2, and 3 1/2 years, and J.J.'s (J.J. is
Silker’s son) shed antlers; 1 1/2, 2 1/2, and 3 1/2 years. Antlers of 1 1/2 and
2 1/2 old deer are smaller than those of older deer. Steve, the deer farm
owner said to us, “Usually deer shed their antlers in January or February, and
sometimes even in March. And then they begin to grow antlers in April or May,
and by August or September, the antlers are fully grown**.” 060118
