Photo 12    American Fur Company, Here is a picture (left to right) of Winona and Olympia, two of the workers stationed at the American Fur Company. Winona can speak Dakota, and her name means "eldest daughter." The purpose of Fort Snelling was to control the fur trading that was going on at the time. Native Americans played a big part of the fur trade at the time.  This pic was shot at Fort Snelling on July 4, 2006
