The great Roman General Julius Caesar was born July 13, 100 B.C. Julius felt
that the Roman Calendar at the time was inaccurate and manipulated for political
purposes, so the calendar was changed to 365 days a year, and 366 days every
fourth year and called the Julian calendar. The month of July was named in honor
of Julius Caesar. Years later, the calendar was changed slightly by Pope Gregory
XIII and renamed the Gregorian calendar.
July 4th is the date for the National holiday, Independence Day. On
Independence Day, there are parades and fireworks ( “Uhh! Ahh!”) in many
cities. The Minnesota summer is usually very nice because it’s not as humid
here as in most of Japan. As for temperatures, believe it or not, it becomes
quite hot since this state is located inland. The temperature sometimes climbs
up to 100 F(38
C)in
summer while it dips to -30 F (-34 C) in the winter. The temperature difference
between the maximum and minimum temperature is 130 F (72 C)!
From June through Labor Day (First Mon. in September), It's Festival Time!
There are Street Festivals, City Festivals, County Fairs, and the Minnesota
State Fair (the Wisconsin Fair <
