第117回St. Paul Winter Carnival + 海洋性気候の日本
対 内陸性気候のミネソタ、ミネソタ版の小説“雪国”ので出しは？
2003年度の
Saint Paul Winter Carnival は、1月24日から2月2日まで、主催されました。今年の
carnival は、第117回目のcarnival となりました。この
Winter Carnival は、全国で、もっとも古く、そして、もっとも大きな
Winter
festival です。

歴史: 1885年、 New Yorkのレポーターが、"St.
Paulは、その冬には、人間が、住めるところではない所､ すなわち、もう一つの
シベリヤ です"
と記事に書きたてました *)
。しかし、当時の
St. Paul市は、このばかげたコメントに反対しました。
St. Paul
市商工会は、St. Paul が、冬においてすら、住むのに、イクサイテｲングな所であることを証明する挑戦をしました。これが、きっかけとなり、winter
carnivalが、1886年に誕生し、それ以来、117 年も続いています。

team tryouts, Pow Wow, Antique sleigh and cutter rally, Vulcan (The

Firetruck Rides, curling, cat show, orchid show, Subaru Wilderness Inquiry
Experience (snow shoeing, cross-country skiing, dog-sledding), car racing on ice
(on the lake), treasure hunting (the prize money for finding the medallion was
$10,000), softball on ice, water skiing, Minnesota Life Frozen 5K and Half
Marathon, Skijor Race (Skijoring is cross-country skiing while harnessed to
a dog), Family Fiesta Day at The St. Paul King's Castle, Ice Bowl Disc Golf
Event, Golf Hole-In-One Contest, Vulcan Victory Dance, Valley Lounge Bocce Ball
Tournament, Vulcan (The
god of fire )
