The 23rd Twin Cities marathon was held on October 3, 2004. The course goes from Downtown Minneapolis to Downtown St. Paul.  The male and female winners finished the marathon in 2:13:33 and 2:26:53 respectively.  We were once again amazed by the speed of the winner in wheelchair race. The top wheeler's average speed was around four minutes per mile.  This years winner's time was 1:50:53.

The surprise for this year's marathon was that our Gov. Tim Pawlenty* finished the marathon in 3:57:52 (despite his busy schedule).  We hear that he also joined the St. Paul Inline marathon, which was held this past August (see Letter  #168). In addition, some say that he is really good at ice hockey.  The former Minnesota Gov., just before the current governor, was Jesse Ventura. He used to be a very famous pro-wrestler and movie star. It looks like Minnesota governors have physical strength in addition to their talent in politics!!!

* Believe it or not, Gov. Pawlenty also ran the NYC Marathon held in November, 2004, and finished the marathon in under 4 hours (200411) < http://www.kstp.com/article/stories/S3959.html?cat=1 > In addition, he shot a buck in Minnesota's deer hunting rifle opener on Saturday, day before the NYC Marathon Sunday.
