Taxes   USA vs. Japan Part II   Sales tax

Federal taxes are the same for all states, while state taxes can differ from state to state.

In Minnesota, you donít have to pay sales taxes on food and clothing, but you have to pay a 6.5% sales tax on other items. You also have to pay a state income tax.  The percentage varies depending upon your level of income.

In Nevada, the situation is much better because we have heard that you donít have to pay any state taxes except a sales tax.  (This means there are no income taxes.) Also, if you visit Las Vegas, Nevada, you will see that accommodations and food are inexpensive. This is mostly due to the fact that the casino businesses provide a lot of money to the state of Nevada.

Some states lower business taxes to attract companies.
