A Taste of Minnesota (Partially Posted: 030718, Posted: 050624) There were lots of food vendors, entertainment, and rides on Harriet Island. It was really hot on Friday through Sunday, so everyone wanted to drink soda or bottled water, have snow cones, or Maui Wowi (fruit smoothies). Typical American foods are corn dogs, hot dogs, bratwurst, cheese curds (deep fried), nachos with cheese (how to eat? grab one end of a nacho and dip the other end of it into cheese and eat a nacho with cheese), corn on the cob (usually roasted; Japan has the same food), and snow cones (we found that snow cones are "kaki gori" in Japan). Flavors of the snow cones are strawberry, lemon lime, grape, etc, but there are no Uji kintoki and green tea. Snow cones are in cones while "kaki gori" is put in a dish and eaten with a spoon. Of course, we ate some good (often greasy) American foods such as cheese curds, nachos with cheese, and snow cones. You could also enjoy a cruise ride* (see a pic) on the Mississippi. There were fireworks every evening but we didn't watch them. The fireworks must have been a spectacular sight if they could be watched from across the Mississippi. A little more than 400,000 people attended the Taste of Minnesota according to July 7th's St. Paul Pioneer Press.
