Easter Part II  Mardi Gras (Fat Tuesday) --- Another happy celebration relating to Easter: for example, Rio ’s Carnival

Q:  During Mardi Gras (“Fat Tuesday” in French; for this year it was March 4, 2003), a day before Ash Wed., people eat a lot to prepare for the time of Lent (See Easter Part I).  Is this true?

A 1:  Yes, this is true for some people. Some people also act wild, drink excessively, and generally act weird.  Fat Tuesday is just another reason for some people to party.

A 2
*:  On Mardi Gras, some people have on last big meal party because they will have the next  40 fasting days of Lent.  This event also stems from pagan festivals indicating the season of planting.  Many countries in the world celebrate Mardi Gras.  For example, Rio de Janeiro in Brazil has a large and really spectacular festival, called Carnival ( Rio ’s Carnival is famous among the Japanese; for a site example, < http://www.ipanema.com/carnival/home.htm#top  >).  New Orleans ’ Mardi Gras is famous in the US (for a site example,  < http://www.icorp.net/carnival/ >) .
