Happy Mother’s Day

Mother's Day is celebrated in the United States on the second Sunday of May.  Families often get together to celebrate the occasion with a meal, and they give cards, gifts, and flowers to honor the mothers and grandmothers in the family.  Those who can’t come home telephone their mom to wish her a happy Mother’s Day.

One of our staff remembers a custom at his childhood church on Mother's Day.  This custom is interesting, but probably is not common*:

"After the church service on Mother's Day, the minister gave potted plants and flowers to the oldest mother in attendance, the youngest mother, the mother with the most kids, and the grandmother with the most grandkids, to name a few of the awards."

*  Another person is saying:  “I haven't seen what he described. I can't really remember any thing special happening on Mother's Day in church. I guess I can let you know after mass this Sunday.”
