The US
is Super-duper
Huge!
The Minnesota Valley National Wildlife Refuge is just a 20 to 30 minute drive
from
St. Paul
and very close to the Mall of
America,
Bloomington
,
Minnesota
. We wandered along the
Minnesota river
and around swamp areas in one of the
areas of the Refuge, Wilkie Unit, Minnesota Valley National Wildlife Refuge,
Bloomington/Shakopee,
Minnesota
for a few hours, but we never saw
any other humans. We only saw beautiful things of nature such as trees, the
river, swamps, bald eagles, cardinals, Mallard ducks,
Canada
geese, and many other birds. It’s
amazing that
Minnesota
keeps this wilderness so very close
to big cities. In these huge areas of the Minnesota Valley National Wildlife
Refuge, there are definitely way more animals and birds living there than
humans. We intended to spot herons (big birds), which are supposed to be nesting
there around this time, but on this day we failed to spot any herons; only "Heron
Nesting Area" signs were often spotted along trails. Some people
say at the
Blue
Lake
there are over 600 nests of herons!
