The genre that our mother's mother claimed to be the devil's music, rock is
pronounced by hard drumming, raging guitar solos, bumping electric bass, and
risqué lyrics that was actually looked down upon when it first came out. It was
influenced by music like Jazz, Blues and Country and developed in many different
countries. Rock is one of today's most popular genres of music in the United
States. Here we listed a few of the popular rock bands, while there are
thousands of other rock bands out there today as well.

Summary:
A British band formed in the mid-60's led by guitarist and vocalist Syd
Barrett, Roger Waters (Bass), Nick Mason (Drums), and Rick Wright (Keyboards)
that were major pioneers into the psychedelic rock genre. A genre heavily
inspired by psychedelic drugs, eventually led Syd Barrett to his departure from
the band in 1968, due to his mental instability from his overuse of LSD, and
after Barrett's only CD recorded with the band "The Piper at the Gates of Dawn."
David Gilmour took over Barrett's role in 1968, and Pink Floyd then went on to
become one of the hugest bands on the 70's with their monster-selling album
"Dark Side of the Moon." The band didn't stop there, releasing albums "Wish
You Were Here", "Animals", and mega-hit album "The Wall" in the later 70's. In
the 80's the band started to go down hill again and lost bassist Roger Waters
due to inter-band problems after the commercial failure "The Final Cut." Pink
Floyd managed to get another two top 5 albums, "A Momentary Lapse of
Reason," in 1987 and "The Division Bell" in 1994. Recently (July 11, 2006) Syd
Barrett was reported to have died at the age of 60. They're still not sure what
the cause of death was, but it is expected to have something to do with his
struggle with diabetes.
Try This: Something interesting to try is to hit play on the "Dark
Side of the Moon" album on the third roar of the MGM Lion in the movie "The
Wizard of Oz." Sit back and listen as it seems as if the album was almost
written as a soundtrack for "The Wizard of Oz," with weird coincidental themes
and events between the movie and the album. Of course Pink Floyd has never
admitted to any of this, but it is very interesting.

John Frusciante - Guitar, Back-up Vocals (1988-1992, 1998-Present)
Summary: The Chili Peppers first live concert was played in 1983
at their high school reunion. Later that year they went on to get a record deal
with EMI unexpectedly. Their first few albums gradually helped establish the
band into the mainstream community, and Mother's Milk was their first album to
get some critically acclaimed status. However, after the release of Uplift Mofo
Party Plan, the bands original guitarist, Hillel Slovak was found dead from an
overdose of heroine. Soon after the drummer Jack Irons left the band saying that
he didn't want to be in a band where he was watching all his friends slowly die.
By the release of Blood Sugar Sex Magik, the band had gone through a couple
stages of drummers and guitarists and stuck with John Frusciante on guitar and
Chad Smith on drums. Blood Sugar Sex Magik was the band's album that put them
into superstar status, reaching double-platinum, selling over seven million
copies of the album in the U.S. alone. During the Blood Sugar Sex Magik tour,
guitarist John Frusciante went through tough times and took four years off from
the band to go into rehab and release a couple solo albums. Replaced by Dave
Navarro for one album, One Hot Minute, the band continued their huge sales.
Frusciante later rejoined the band in time to make Californication, which
managed to outsell even their double-platinum album Blood Sugar Sex Magik. After
Californication the band continued to sell more and more copies with each new
album made, and for their first time, reached #1 on the sales charts with their
latest release Stadium Arcadium.
