Here is a picture of a baby peregrine falcon at the City
Center in Minneapolis. Peregrine falcons were placed on the endangered species
list in 1973 due to the use of DDT as a pesticide. DDT caused the eggshells thin
causing the eggs to break, and was then banned in the U.S. in 1973. Since then
groups like the Midwest Peregrine Society have worked to bring the peregrine
falcons off the endangered list and succeeded
in 1999. Now there are 210 peregrine pairs and 435 peregrine young in the
Midwest.
