One of our stuff members joined Craig (Minnesota Valley National Wildlife Refuge) for his birding walk.
What they spotted during Craig's walk:  a Bald Eagle in flight, a Bald Eagle nest, a Pileated Woodpecker, Northern Flickers, Mallards, Canada Geese (calls), American Black Ducks, Northern Shovelers, Lesser Scaup, a female Greater Scaup (his first), a Hooded Merganser, Common Mergansers, Northern Cardinals (spring calls), Chickadees (spring calls), American Tree Sparrows, American Robins (calls), an American Goldfinch, Woodpecker drumming

Mammals: A Muskrat swims to its lodge
On our walks: 
A Bald Eagle nest, and the parents (calls) perching on nearby branches, a European Starling (calls)
Red-tailed Hawks, Rock Pigeons

Dodge Nature Center:
Turkeys, Chickadees (calls); Educational birds: a Bald Eagle, Red-tailed Hawk, and Barred Owl.

6833 140803  "The 2014 Fall Bird Migration has already started"  Pectoral Sandpipers Photos:  3a  |  3b (Up-Close)  We've never seen Pectoral Sandpipers before. Pectoral Sandpipers breed in the Arctic and winter in South America. They were on the way to South America. Like it or not, It looks like the 2014 fall bird migration has already started for some bird species.

We spotted: Bald Eagles, Gulls, Mallards, Hooded Mergansers, Canada Geese, a Red-tailed Hawk, Rock Pigeons, an American Tree Sparrow, Trumpeter Swans, a Grebe, American Coots, Ring-necked Ducks, Northern Shovelers, Gadwalls
Beaver Lodges, (Bowhunters)

Naturalists Craig Mandel, George Skinner, Anne, and Don volunteer for the Minnesota Valley National Wildlife Refuge.
Naturalist David True, a naturalist, then worked for the MN Valley National Wildlife Refuge, Rapids Lake Unit. Now he works for the Aransas National Wildlife Refuge Complex, in Texas.
