After posting these pix of wood ducks, I’ve just learned online that Japan has ducks similar to wood ducks, called “Oshi Dori”.  The Japanese Wikipedia says, “In Japan, wood ducks are called ‘America Oshi’ ”. Then, I recall there are “Oshi Dori”* (it looks like Oshi Dori is Mandarin Ducks*) in Japan, but I never had a chance to spot them while in Japan. I believe you can’t spot “Oshi Dori” in Japan as often as wood ducks in the U.S.  I’m really lucky because I’m now able to see wood ducks anytime I would like to spot except winter. I think usually in Japan if you spotted Mallard ducklings, which I never had a chance to spot while in Japan, it would be big TV news.  J
