Photo 2    Hornet (Bald-faced Hornet) Nest (Up-Close)  This pic was taken during Tammy's early morning birding walk at Eloise Butler Wildflower Garden and Bird Sanctuary, Minneapolis, MN on October 15, 2011.  This nest is 30 - 50 cm long. It consists of several horizontal tiers of combs inside the carton. Each spring they (Queen) will build a new nest. By summer the nest will contain 100 - 400 wasps*.
*。 スズメバチの一種のようですが、日本のものより、小型です。でも、刺されないよう、巣には、近寄らないのが賢いです。巣の中には、何段ものcomb (巣板?) があります。巣の外側の模様は、興味深く、不気味でもありますね?What's the difference?: Bee vs. Hornet vs. Wasp | Swarming Hornet's Nest video    For more info on hornets, check out National Geographic | Univ. of Kentucky | CirrusImage      Just for fun, Wasps Cartoons and Comics
