カラスより、ずっと体の小さい Eastern kingbird が、カラスを攻撃している写真です。Kingbird は、外敵が、彼らの巣に余り近づくと、その外敵を攻撃します。その外敵が、彼らより、ずっと大きなカラスや鷹*でも攻撃するので、知られています。きっと、 Kingbird の巣が、写真を撮影した近くにあると思います。実際、去年の今頃、Kingbird の巣をあのあたりで、自然専門家の Matt さんに、見せていただいたのを思い出しました。巣は、葉っぱのしっかり茂った木の中にあり、地上から約５ｍの高さでした。もちろん、巣には、近寄りませんでした。

* カラスも鷹も肉食なので、巣の中の Kingbird の卵やベービーを食べられてしまうので、Kingbird にとっては、必死の防衛だと思います。それにしても、体の大きさを見ると、Kingbird は、たいへん勇敢な鳥ですね！
